What Staff Should Do in the Event of a Fire at the Workplace

🟢 REMAIN COOL IN THE EVENT OF A WORKPLACE FIRE: Every organization’s fire drill should include instructions to its employees not to panic. While there may be some worry during a fire, advising everyone to be cool is always a good evacuation practice.

🟢 BRING A MOBILE DEVICE: As previously said, evacuating the fire should be everyone’s main concern. If a worker’s mobile device is readily available, they should use it to keep informed and respond to status check-ins.

🟢 PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR LEADER: A designated Fire Warden should give the necessary instruction while guiding all personnel to safety. If a person has any concerns, they should contact the company’s fire safety staff.

🟢 NOTIFY THE AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY: Someone on the fire team should be responsible for informing the fire brigade at the first indicators of a fire. Don’t presume that notifications have been generated by systems.

🟢 SUPPORT EMPLOYEES WITH LIMITED MOBILITY: Some employees may need special help to exit the facility safely using safety equipment like an Evac Chair, whether they have a damaged ankle or a persistent mobility difficulty.

🟢 REMEMBER TO SHUT DOORS BEHIND YOU: As previously stated, open doors may aggravate an already severe fire. After all personnel have safely left the location, this duty should be added to the fire team’s checklist.

🟢 ASSEMBLE IN A SECURE LOCATION: Your fire drill will have established a safe meeting area, such as a parking garage or lot, some distance from your building/facility.

🟢 ACCOUNT FOR EVERYONE: Request that the Headcount Manager notify first responders/law enforcement of any missing person or any wounded workers.
