Head of Schemes at BAFE Chris Auger releases an update for businesses who are getting ready for their BAFE certification assessment.
Earlier this year, BAFE released a publication stating how businesses should prepare themselves for the certification audit taking the view that organisations that were due an audit would be three month concessionary period.
That time has now passed and many organisations will be faced with the issue of their certification expiring soon.
Throughout August, people nationwide had seen a dramatic improvement in relation to the number of Covid-19 cases with infection rates reducing daily throughout the country.
Coming up to date, September marked the start of many returning to work and an increase in social activity. This in turn has led to several towns returning to a lockdown situation with many companies having to close their business or adhere to strict guidelines setting the rules to how many people can enter their premises at any one time.
Bafe have now had to review their position on remote audit and the issue of their certificates. Chris Auger, head of schemes at BAFE stated that he had to take unprecedented steps to ensure health and safety. Auger came to his decision after stating that The situation in relation to the coronavirus pandemic was in itself unprecedented in recent months.

A Higher Level Of Scrutiny
In light of this, Auger has chosen to provide further extensions on their temporary certifications that will be valid up until the end of December this year (2020). He mentions that the decision was not easy, but the BAFE organisation states clearly that the move was imperative in order for business nationwide to continue trading throughout these difficult times.
Remote Certification organisations could well have their own guidelines and requirements and may choose to avoid the completion of assessments on a remote basis.

The BAFE’s suggestion in reaction to this is for the concerned companies to make direct contact with their certification bodies for advice. He continues to explain that during the initial surveillance, there most likely will be a higher level of scrutiny in relation to key personnel.
